Meet the farmer.

Hi there! My name is Maylene White. Dancing Cricket Flower Farm is my dream realized, decades in the making. My grandmother took me to Butchart Gardens near Victoria, British Columbia when I was seven. From then on, I was hooked on plants. Specifically, flowers. The beauty, variety and the movement of flowers has always captured my heart.  I loved giving away bouquets from flowers that I grew. In the last decade or so, there has been a movement to bring locally grown flowers into the community. This idea spoke to me. I thought, “I live on 2/3 acre, and I could grow flowers right here.”

I always get asked about the farm name. My modern-dance career spanned over three decades, both as a performer and dance educator. All the while, I fostered my love for flowers. And since I was little, my nickname has always been Cricket, given to me by my grandmother who introduced me to gardening. So, in essence, Dancing Cricket IS me! I really do approach my flower beds, and even farm layout like choreography. Color, shape, texture all mixing together to create beauty that everyone can enjoy. Flowers are how nature dances!
